Longest Shutdown In History

The Guardian reports today, “US government shutdown becomes longest in history.

The US government shutdown is now the longest such closure in history. On Saturday, day 22, members of Congress were out of Washington, Donald Trump was unmoved in the White House, his border wall unbuilt, and around 800,000 federal workers were still without pay and facing mounting hardship.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Needs Your Money

Americans For Tax Reform report that the “Ocasio-Cortez Tax Plan Creates 82.7% Top Income Tax Rate for New Yorkers.” Whoa!  Let’s see how many good New York and California (83.30% tax) liberals jump on that train to nowhere.

The current top federal income tax rate is 37 percent, so the Ocasio-Cortez plan will nearly double the tax rate for the top bracket.

New York State has a top income tax rate of 8.82 percent while New York City has a top rate of 3.876 percent. So under this proposal, her constituents would pay a top combined income tax rate of 82.7 percent:

Federal income tax rate:   70.0%
NY state income tax rate: 8.82%
NYC income tax rate:       3.876%
TOTAL:                           82.696%

New Yorkers would not be the only ones suffering under the Ocasio-Cortez plan. California taxpayers would pay a top rate of 83.3 percent (70 percent plus the California rate of 13.30 percent).

In addition to this high income tax rate, taxpayers would remain impacted by other taxes including payroll taxes, taxes on capital gains income and dividends, and the death tax.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Responsible For The Extinction Of Donkeys

Perhaps hyperbole?  Perhaps premature?  Perhaps not.  If Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has her way and “Makes America Venezuela”, then our donkeys and burros could be going the way of Venezuela’s.  The Miami Herald writes, “Donkey herds are dwindling as hungry Venezuelans slaughter them for food“.

A few years ago, there were so many donkeys, or burros, in the Venezuelan state of Falcón that they were a problem — herds everywhere, causing highway crashes and blocking airport runways.

But over the past three years, the herds have shrunk dramatically as thousands of burros have been slaughtered for their meat by Venezuelans suffering through a near-famine.

“There’s no more burros here,” said Odalys Martinez, a resident of the Paraguana Peninsula in northern Falcón.

Here are a few more Democratic Donkeys that we hope Ms. Alexandria will lay to rest…
